Banding Together for Texas: A Night of Healing, Hope, and Music
In the wake of the devastating Central Texas floods on July 4, 2025, our hearts remain with the families who lost loved ones, the brave first responders, the tireless volunteers, and the resilient survivors. In honor and remembrance of those affected, the strength of community came alive at the Band Together Texas relief concert, held at the Moody Center on August 17, 2025. This powerful evening was a testament to unity, healing, and hope.
With Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum leading the charge, the Band Together Texas relief concert featured an unforgettable lineup of artists and guests – including Kelly Clarkson, Jon Randall, Lukas Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Mack Brown, Emmanuel Acho, and our very own Matthew McConaughey. Matthew opened and closed the evening with heartfelt words of strength and love, reminding us, “Because even in the hardest times, we have to believe in the power of joy. So while we honor the heavy truths that brought us here, we will also celebrate the light that must continue to shine.” With over $8.5 million raised and still climbing, all proceeds will benefit the Community Hill Foundation of Texas Hill Country and the Central Texas Community Foundation. We stand together in support as impacted communities begin their journey toward recovery and healing.
Program Highlights
NOLA Pickle Fest 2025
On Thursday, August 8th, twelve of our amazing JKL students from L.B. Landry hit the courts for the 3rd annual NOLA Pickle Fest, hosted by none other than the Brees Dream Foundation!
The experience was packed with energy and excitement—students were gifted with custom paddles and gear bags, learned the ropes of the fastest-growing sport in the country, and even faced off in some friendly pickleball matches.
And the highlight? Hanging out with Drew Brees himself—on and off the court! From rallies, serves, to real talk, it was an unforgettable day of fun, learning, and inspiration with a little dance party mixed in!
JKL Student Spotlight: Meet Jamarion from Eastern Hills High School
Jamarion is an excellent JKL student and a great athlete, closing out his junior year experience this senior year! The welcoming family environment and peer support have had a lasting impact since his first year in the JKL program. Ever since his first field trip to the Main Event Dallas, a vibrant entertainment hub where people come together for food, fun, and friendly competition, he has made friends who would ultimately become his core friend group throughout high school. “My JKL instructors have been there to help me when I was going through a rough time. The support, community service, and new experiences have been a true highlight for me.” Jamarion, a teen father, takes pride in caring for his son, excelling academically, and participating in sports such as Football and Basketball, and the JKL program.
“Jamarion’s optimism through his adversity is admirable”- JKL Instructor
As Jamarion enters his senior year, he is looking forward to more community service activations and trips to explore more of Texas through JKL opportunities. After graduation, Jamarion is eyeing possible enrollment at The University of North Texas. We are excited to see him in action this year! Jamarion, we’re proud to support Henry on his journey and can’t wait to see where his talents and dedication take him next!
