Los Angeles Wildfires

We are deeply heartbroken by the devastation that unfolded across Los Angeles in January, and our hearts ache for those who have endured unimaginable pain and loss. The immediate challenges so many are faced in addition to the long-term effects, are beyond comprehension. At JKL, we love to be a resource and if you’re still looking for ways to support our LA communities, please consider giving to these incredible organizations who are continuing to provide support and resources to those affected.

Los Angeles Wildfires

To all the first responders who put their own lives on the line to save others, you are true heroes and we are eternally grateful for your bravery and compassion. THANK YOU!

JKL x DARE TO LIVE RIGHT

JKL x DARE TO LIVE RIGHT

The students at John Adams received brand new sneakers, courtesy of the “Dare To Live Right” (DTLR) community outreach program, which aims to uplift and revitalize local minority communities. DTLR generously donated 30 pairs of sneakers and gift cards. They also hosted a workshop focused on community service opportunities, college education pathways, and developing healthy eating habits. This initiative provided essential resources and empowered students to engage with and support their local community.

JKL x KABOOM

JKL x KABOOM

Students in Uvalde have partnered with “KABOOM: Wild About Playing” to create the 9th play space for the local community. The students have helped build nine play spaces across Uvalde, striving to ensure every neighborhood has access to safe and fun recreational areas. This ongoing collaboration with KABOOM motivates students to design spaces that reflect the unique needs, cultures, and strengths of the community, ensuring every child has a place to play and grow.

Student Spotlight

Student Spotlight - Jasyn Uvalde

The Uvalde High School JKL program is making a powerful impact both on campus and in the community, and one of its shining stars is junior Jaslyn. From the moment she joined, Jaslyn has taken advantage of all JKL offers, and it’s clear she’s thriving. Recently, she and her JKL peers played a key role in building the 9th Kaboom playground for the Uvalde community, an experience that left her feeling proud. “I felt so good giving back to my community and knowing that I had a hand in creating that playground is something I’ll always remember.”

For Jaslyn, the JKL program has transformed her high school journey in ways she never imagined. She thought joining the cheer team would be her most significant achievement and only memory from high school. But now, two and a half years later, as a high school junior, she is experiencing new things like zip lining hundreds of feet in the air, rock climbing, trying new fruits and veggies, and being selected to attend a youth leadership conference.

“Jaslyn is a remarkable person with a heart full of kindness,” says a fellow student. “She’s always ready to listen, lend a hand, or be a friend to anyone in need. Over the past few years, I’ve seen her grow beyond her comfort zone, constantly striving to improve and embracing every part of the program.”

With her eyes set on the future, Jaslyn is determined to become the first in her family to graduate from high school and attend college. She is a testament to hard work, community spirit, and the power of believing in yourself.
